The United States gave us the MBA program and the country’s business schools are still very much among the best. Institutions across the US dominated the QS Global MBA Rankings 2019, with five of the 10 top programs in the world, but which are the top 10 institutions in the country?
Here’s our roundup:
1. Harvard Business School
The top institution in the US is also the world’s number one according to the QS Global MBA Rankings 2018.
Harvard Business School is the originator of the MBA and offers one of the most competitive and selective MBA courses in the world. With alumni including the likes of Michael Bloomberg - the 10th richest man in the world and former mayor of New York - it’s not hard to see why. The institution also ranked first in employability and diversity, and second in entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes.
2. Stanford Graduate School of Business
The second highest ranked business school in the US is
Stanford. The Californian institute is famed for its technological successes, with many alumni going on to found successful enterprises including Google, Hewlett-Packard and Cisco Systems. For specific criteria, Stanford ranks first in entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, and fifth for return on investment and thought leadership.
3. The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
Third in the US is the
Wharton School. One of the most exclusive institutions in the world, alumni include CEOs of Google, Apple, LinkedIn, Pepsi, Time Inc., and many more. For specific criteria, it ranks second for employability and thought leadership, and fourth for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes.
4. MIT Sloan School of Management
MIT is famed for producing some of the most innovative graduates in the world, and its business school is no different. It ranked first for thought leadership both in our US ranking and the global ranking. For entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes the institution ranks second in the US, and for employability it comes in at sixth position.
5. Columbia Business School
The only Ivy League business school in New York, the world’s financial heart,
Columbia is fifth in our US ranking. For employability, it ranks in fourth position, fifth for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes and eighth for thought leadership.
6. Haas School of Business, University of California Berkeley
Part of the University of California,
Haas School of Business is located in Berkeley and specializes in producing innovative and creative alumni. In the US, the institution is ranked third for thought leadership, fourth for diversity, seventh for employability, and 10th for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes.
7. The University of Chicago Booth School of Business
Seventh in the top 10 is
Chicago Booth, the second-oldest business school in the nation and the first to offer an executive MBA program. It belongs to M7, an elite group of
MBA programs across the USA and has additional campuses in London and Hong Kong. It ranks fourth in our list for thought leadership, fifth for employability, and 11th for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes.
8. The UCLA Anderson School of Management
The
UCLA Anderson School of Management is eighth in our US top 10 and is located in Los Angeles, an astoundingly creative city with the third largest GDP of any city in the world. The institution is seventh for thought leadership, eighth for employability, and ninth for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes.
9. The Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University
The
business school of Northwestern University has spent the last 100 years training some of the world’s top business people. The institution was among the first to promote a teaching style which focuses on teamwork. The business school ranks third for employability, seventh for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, and 10th for thought leadership.
10. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan
Finally, the
Ross School of Business, part of the University of Michigan. The school ranks second in the USA for diversity, sixth for entrepreneurship and alumni outcomes, 11th for thought leadership, and 12th for employability.
